Free Adobe Software of Best. Although it's pretty good for an easier-to-use interface and lets of the more advanced goodies.
Anyway, it does work perfectly fine, the trick is using the offline installer instead of installing it from the Creative Cloud Desktop app. Neither the Apple Support nor the Adobe Support folks suggested this, and it didn't occur to me to try this different approach. Grant Bennet-Alder, thanks but yes I did install Rosetta and that did not seem to make any difference.
